Meet Driss Ben-Brahim. He's the head of Goldman Sach's prop trading desk in London, and is rumored to be one of those banking astronomically large this year. The New York Post suggested that there are some within the bank that will get bonuses of $100 million this year, and Ben-Brahim is rumored to be one of them with a £50m payout:
Mr Ben-Brahim heads Goldman's massively profitable 'proprietary' trading desk, which takes risks on the world's markets with the bank's - rather than clients' - own money. The low-profile trader picked up $70m (£37.3m) after an outstanding 2004, but this year is said to have hit new heights.
His rumoured bonus - about 2,000 times the average British wage - may be the biggest but it is one of only hundreds worth at least £1m awarded to Goldman's London staff on 'B-Day' yesterday. Scores of senior traders and dealmakers will have got £5m and an elite handful £10m plus.
Others expected to do well in the Goldman Bonus Bonanza: Yoel Zaoui - head of European investment banking. He's said to be in the £10m payout club. Others set to bank large are Michael Sherwood, co-ceo of Goldman Sachs in Europe, Richard Gnodde, the other co-head of Goldman's Europe, and Simon Dingemans, head of UK investment banking, pictured below.
