Today's New York Post pokes some fun at Bear Stearns' Jimmy Cayne citing some of the marijuana jokes going around Wall Street after yesterday's Wall Street Journal story claiming that he enjoys the occasional doobie. A Bear Stearns statement said that there was "no inappropriate conduct" although it seems to us that it's not exactly an absolute denial that he doesn't ever partake. However, no one we spoke to yesterday thought that even if the 73 year old CEO did inhale every now and again that it would ever get him booted. On the contrary, people seemed to be almost universally impressed (us included).
Given how much fun we have with graphics, we coudln't help but admire their 'fun with Photoshop' "High Times" cover mock up, pictured at left.
"You hear 'em all," said one trader who knows Cayne. "High finance . . . don't take Viagra with it . . . what a dope."
Going along with the jokes, Cayne told CNBC: "It's unbelievable. The phones are ringing off the hook and everyone wants to play golf with me now."
Even as Cayne issued firm denials of any pot use, the e-mails and snickering on the Street persisted.
