Earlier we noted a NY Post story that talks about how many professional former six figure salaried women fired in the crash have turned to stipping. One they cite is Randi Newton, 28.
"A few nights after I got laid off, I went with friends to a strip club to get drunk and forget my unemployment troubles," Newton said. "The manager offered me a job as a dancer. I thought it was different. And fun."
But The Post story's timeline and facts seem to be a bit off from another version. From Ms. Newton's account in her blog, she didn't happen to wander into the strip club right after she was fired from Morgan Stanley; it doesn't sound like she was fired from that gig -- she had another job with a marketing company from which she was laid off. And the Miss America Organization scholarship recipient (and graduate of U Nebraska at Omaha) was a waitress for a year before taking her clothes off (which she did after getting dumped by her boyfriend and having gotten drunk). And she's since retired her g-string (although it sounds like she still works for Rick's doing publicity).
Oh, and by the way, in addition to her blog she has a publicist and a book that's coming out at the end of 2009....
. According to her blog "Wall Street Stripper".
Newton has since been offered several management positions with major companies, and was approached again by Morgan Stanley Dean Witter. However, using the business skills she developed working in a corporate environment, and applying them to her “night job” her income exceeded $100,000.00 a year. Recently Randi was featured in Radar Magazine in an article about “smart” strippers. She was also approached by the Oprah Winfrey show about the inside life of a stripper. She currently lives in New York City, studying at The New School and Upright Citizens Brigade. She is also a columnist for Exotic Dancer Magazine. Randi loves dealing poker, singing karaoke and has “retired” her g-string. Her book, “Wall Street Stripper” is hitting bookstores December 09.
According to her FAQ she's no longer an exotic dancer, her boobs are real, she hasn't had botox or any plastic surgery, isn't married, and likes bad reality tv and karaoke. She tried to get a job with Hooters on three separate occasions, but didn't even land an interview. You can see more pictures of her from her account of the Exotic Dancer Magazine Rock N' Roll Awards show (which she describes as sort of like the Oscars for strip clubs). She sat next to pudgy porn legendRon Jeremy.
Addendum: Ms. Newton is also an actress, as a commenter to our original post points out. She has a publicity site here amd also has a listing at the imdb site including her bio ("Newton competed in the Miss New York USA pageant. After not making the top 10, later that evening she was awarded Miss Congeniality.").

The Post never seems to let a few innacuracies get in the way of a story. But it's all good for the now former stripper. She gets publicity for her new book and her blog. It's sure to be a real page turner.

Hi. It's me Randi Newton. Earlier in my blog today I mentioned that the NY Post DID misquote me and to contact me with any questions. Thanks for taking the time to write about me! I'm going to watch Rock of Love Bus now! ; )

I am actually a stripper sister to Miss Newton. We danced together in NYC. I am so glad someone is $preading new light on the industry. Everything about Miss Newton is true! I have since left NYC and am now an award winning stripper with the Spearmint Rhino of Torrance, CA. The job isn't who we are it's just what we do to get by! Visit my myspace for pics of me with Miss Newton.

Oh yet another stripper with a book deal...
"The job isn't who we are it's just what we do to get by." I've heard that one before...
I guess it doesn't take a certain kind of female mentality to be able to turn the loneliness of men to your profit, hmm?
Oh, men are such silly, pathetic creatures, easily led around by lapdancers. Men only built the world we live in, fought the wars, defeated the diseases, painted most of the better pictures, wrote most of the better books, reached the stars, all that counts for very little...
Women, and strippers in particular, are capable of the most creative rationalizations for their behavior...that's one of the things you learn by being a customer in strip clubs.
I'm sorry I read that article in the Post, it ruined my mood for hours...
But I tried to get it out of my system a little on my own blog...a blog by a fan of strippers...a side of the story that I doubt Oprah Winfrey would be interested in...
